THE GEOGRAPHIC QUESTION

Choose the area and the business question.

A county comparison, city study and site catchment need different boundaries and levels of detail. Agree the area, business category and source release before comparing counts.

Overture provides a global geographic foundation. For applicable US questions, Census business data and FCC broadband measures can add local detail. Coverage and resolution vary by source.

A US PLANNING EXAMPLE

A US location study might combine these sources.

A US PLANNING EXAMPLE
Source familyWhat to inspectContribution to the planning brief
Overture places and geographyRecorded places, categories and location context for the selected area. The physical commercial setting.
Census CBP/ZBPApplicable business counts by industry and geographic classification. The structure of the local business population.
FCC broadband evidenceThe measures and reporting geography supplied by the source.A connectivity question for further technical investigation.

READ THE ATTRIBUTES CORRECTLY

Understand what the location attributes mean.

Overture’s confidence field concerns whether a recorded place exists. Operating status and opening hours are separate attributes. These help interpret a location record; footfall, sales and site suitability need other evidence.

The shortlist should show which location records and statistics support it. Fieldwork, site availability, engineering constraints and operating costs remain part of the investigation.

APPLICATION DESIGN

Connect location evidence to your own operating criteria.

A location application can combine geographic evidence with the business’s site requirements, internal records and review process. We scope the source coverage and build the mapping, interface and integrations required around the platform.
